Saving/ File Management.
As you should know by now all work must be saved before turning the power off to the MPC. You will also now be familiar with the DISK screen (3 on the numeric pad). There are four functions within this screen.

LOAD.
Sounds, programs and sequences can be loaded here (refer to Operation/ Loading section).
The following files can be loaded into the MPC:-
__.SND:- Sound file.
__.SEQ:- Sequence file.
__.ALL:- All sequence and song files.
__.MIDI:- Standard MIDI file.
__.PGM:- Program file.
__.APS:- Multiple programs.
__.WAV:- PC wave file.
The Type: field shows the data of the drive selected in the Device: field, i.e. FLOPPY: S3000. The size of file is also displayed as well as the free sequence and sound memory available in the MPC.
SAVE.
There are various types of files on the MPC, they are labelled by different extensions depending on the type of file.
__.ALL:- A file with 99 sequences and twenty songs.
__.SEQ:- A sequence file.
__.APS:- All of the programs on the MPC memory when saved. The sounds in the memory are saved as separate sound files, the .APS only contains program data but when a file is loaded the sounds used by that program will also load.
__.PGM:- A single program file. When a program is saved it will only contain program settings but when loaded it will also load the appropriate sounds.
__.SND:- A sound file.
__.WAV:- An audio file, this option is compliant with operating system V1.7 only.
Select the type of disk you will be saving to in the Device field, if SCSI is selected there will be options for SCSI ID and disk partition. Select the type of data you want to save in the type field. When selected press DO IT a window will appear where you can wipe and save or just save to the selected disk
.
If you have the Flash ROM board fitted you can also save up to 8 megabytes worth of programs etc. on it, choose F-ROM in the Device: field. It is necessary to arrange the data on the Flash ROM occasionally because it writes data consecutively to available areas and when data is deleted from it there are gaps left in-between data. Press OPEN WINDOW and then arrange.

To copy the operating software (system disk) select the option in the SAVE screen and insert the system disk you want to copy, this can only be done from floppy. Press DO IT and select the destination of the copy, press DO IT again and insert the destination disk.
By copying the operating system file to a SCSI drive you can start the MPC automatically when it is switched on, it is also possible to store the operating system with .APS and .ALL files these will automatically load when the operating software boots up.
FORMAT.
In order to load or save to a floppy or SCSI drive it is necessary to format the disk in order to use it with the MPC, once formatted all the data on the disk will be lost. Press DO IT to execute, a format screen will appear for approximately a minute. If formatting a SCSI drive it is possible to partition the disk, if SCSI is selected in the Device: field a Parts: field will appear, choose the amount here and proceed as above.
DELETE.
Select the disk you wish to delete from in the Device: field and the file in the File: field, pressing DO IT will permanently remove the data so be careful.
